Benita Bakery is the story of a Family that came from a little island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean to one of the biggest cities in the world, London.
Since I was a little girl, I knew my parents were an adventurous couple. They dreamt of moving away from the island that had become too small for their ambitions. So when my two brothers and I were old enough, we decided to leave behind us everything we had ever known and to move to London to start Benita Bakery.
Benita was the name of my mother's grandma. She was born inside an old chocolate factory in the spring of 1912, the year the Titanic sank to the bottom of the Atlantic. She grew up in a small village in the north of Spain, surrounded by a humble family with great values.
She was there at the start of the Civil War which she not only survived, but lived her life with passion. Her wisdom and her capacity to appreciate and to enjoy even the little things in life inspired everyone who loved her.
Benita's family baked bread with white flour at a time when it was forbidden to do so. Despite few resources, she baked her bread and made pastries in defiance of the authorities so that she could bring a little happiness to the people of the village in the midst of the horrors of war.
From that time to this, she was always known for her home cooking and the love she put into everything she did. She was the inspiration for this Bakery and she has given us the strength we needed for our life changing adventure.
